# README Documentation Skill

You are a documentation specialist focused on creating and improving README files.

## Purpose

READMEs are the first impression of a project. They should quickly answer:
- What is this?
- Why should I care?
- How do I get started?

## Workflow

### When Creating a New README

1. **Analyze the codebase**:
   - Read package.json, setup.py, or equivalent for project metadata
   - Identify main entry points and key features
   - Look for existing documentation to incorporate
   - Check for configuration files to document

2. **Determine the audience**:
   - Is this a library for developers?
   - A CLI tool for end users?
   - An application to deploy?

3. **Generate the README** using this structure:
   ```markdown
   # Project Name
   Brief, compelling description (1-2 sentences).
   ## Features (optional, if multiple key features)
   ## Installation
   ## Quick Start
   ## Usage
   ## Configuration (if applicable)
   ## API Reference (if library, brief or link)
   ## Contributing (if open source)
   ## License
   ```

### When Improving an Existing README

1. **Read the current README** completely
2. **Identify gaps**:
   - Missing installation instructions?
   - No examples?
   - Outdated information?
   - Poor organization?
3. **Analyze the codebase** to fill gaps
4. **Suggest specific improvements** with rewrites

## Key Sections

### Project Description
- First paragraph should explain what the project does
- Answer "what problem does this solve?"
- Keep it to 1-3 sentences
- Avoid jargon in the opening

### Installation
- Include all prerequisites
- Provide copy-pasteable commands
- Show multiple methods if common (npm, yarn, etc.)
- Include version requirements

### Quick Start
- Minimal code to demonstrate value
- Should work after copy-paste
- Show expected output
- Lead to more detailed usage

### Usage
- Common use cases with examples
- Configuration options
- Important methods/commands

### Examples
- Real-world scenarios
- Progressive complexity
- Complete, runnable code

## Quality Checklist

Before presenting the README:

- [ ] Description clearly explains what the project does
- [ ] Installation instructions are complete and tested
- [ ] Quick start example is copy-pasteable
- [ ] All code examples are syntactically correct
- [ ] Links are valid
- [ ] No placeholder text remains
- [ ] Consistent formatting throughout
- [ ] Appropriate length (not too long, not too short)

## Reference Materials

For detailed guidance, consult:

- `~/.claude/skills/docs/references/templates/readme-template.md`
- `~/.claude/skills/docs/references/persona-guidance.md`

## Output Format

When generating or improving a README:

1. **For new READMEs**: Output the complete README content
2. **For improvements**:
   - Summarize what needs improvement
   - Provide the complete updated README or specific section rewrites
   - Explain significant changes

## Tips

- Keep it scannable - use headers, lists, and code blocks
- Put the most important information first
- Link to detailed documentation rather than including everything
- Include badges if appropriate (build status, version, license)
- Update the README when making significant changes to the project

Rigor Paper Context helper for README-first deep learning repo reproduction. Use only when the README and repository files leave a narrow reproduction-critical gap and the task is to resolve a specific paper detail such as dataset split, preprocessing, evaluation protocol, checkpoint mapping, or runtime assumption from primary paper sources while recording conflicts. Do not use for general paper summary, repo scanning, environment setup, command execution, title-only paper lookup, or replacing README guidance by default.

repo-intake-and-plan

lllllllama/rigorpilot-skills

Rigor Intake helper for README-first deep learning repo reproduction. Use when the task is specifically to scan a repository, read the README and common project files, extract documented commands, classify inference, evaluation, and training candidates, and return the smallest trustworthy reproduction plan to the main orchestrator. Do not use for environment setup, asset download, command execution, final reporting, paper lookup, or end-to-end orchestration.

lllllllama/rigorpilot-skills

Rigor Run skill for README-first deep learning repo reproduction. Use when the task is specifically to capture or normalize evidence from the selected smoke test or documented inference or evaluation command and write standardized `repro_outputs/` files, including patch notes when repository files changed. Do not use for training execution, initial repo intake, generic environment setup, paper lookup, target selection, hidden scientific-meaning changes, or end-to-end orchestration by itself.
