<application_templates>
**Application templates** configure a whole app (gems, auth, config, feature sets) rather than generating one component. They use the same Thor action DSL but are invoked with `rails new myapp -m template.rb` or `bin/rails app:template LOCATION=template.rb`:

**Key rules**: guard against re-runs (injections corrupt on second apply), prefer gem install generators over hand-rolled setup, prefer `inject_into_file` on stable anchors over brittle `gsub_file` regexes, and end by running the app's test suite.

**Missing source_root**: Add `source_root File.expand_path('templates', __dir__)` to generator class.

**Incorrect template syntax**: Use `<%%` for literal ERB in generated files: `<%%= @user.name %>` generates `<%= @user.name %>`.

**Option not recognized**: Define with `class_option :namespace, type: :string` and access with `options[:namespace]`.
