Why this works
Fill inpainting is a positive-generation task even when the user's actual intent is "delete" — the model always paints something into the masked pixels, so an instruction like "remove the umbrella" with no description of what fills the space is genuinely underspecified. Naming the exact replacement content — continuing sand and sky, matched horizon height — is what turns a vague deletion request into content Fill can actually generate, which is the core mechanical reason this prompt is structured around "what should exist instead," not "what to take away." The material and texture continuity instruction targets inpainting's most common visible failure: a patterned or textured surface — wood grain, sand ripples, tile — that stops abruptly at the mask edge and resumes as a flatter, less-detailed texture inside the filled region. Fill can satisfy "looks plausible" without satisfying "matches this specific surrounding pattern's exact spacing and angle" unless that continuity is stated as its own explicit requirement, separate from just describing the content generally. The shadow-cleanup instruction exists because Fill's default behavior only reconstructs the masked region itself. A cast shadow from the removed object often extends outside the mask boundary onto areas that were never masked in the first place, and if the mask wasn't drawn generously enough to include that shadow, no prompt instruction can fix it after the fact. Naming the shadow explicitly is what prompts a careful, generous mask — or a deliberate follow-up edit — that actually covers it, rather than only the object's silhouette.
